The article on the CNET outlines the "Five Reasons social networking doesn't work"
The reasons are as follows:
1. There's nothing to do there
2. It takes too much time
3. Traffic alone isn't enough
4. Strangers kind of suck (or, put nicely, the social hierarchy is really not that attractive)
5. We already have the Internet
Well...We might have a different point of view based on these reasons. Those of us who are really into the myspace and facebook etc. would argue that it works and YES, you have lots of friends that you communicate on a daily basis. And yes there is a lot to do there if you really know what you are doing!
Indeed there are strangers, and many of us do not feel comfortable talking to them on the street...then we should feel the same way for online as well. If you have someone on you facebook who is literally asking you to go out etc. and you do not wish to...SIMPLY BLOCK HIM OR HER.
Although, In terms of bloging it is important to stress out that you have to have a purpose for you blog (social networking site) to draw the attention of your audience. However, I think finding the time to get back to read the latest posting would be another issue for the readers.
My point of view is that social networking does work, it might be because I am used to going online and checking my facebook to see who posted a message on the wall. Or simply because I use other networking sites such as linkedin (which I found very beneficial to use) for employers to find me.

I can attest that social networking really does work. I have met up with lots of old friends through facebook alone. Myspace allows me to watch 24 when I didn't have the chance to on Monday night. It is a good way to advertise as well as entertaining. Way to go, social networking!
I was surprised at your post! I was thinking almost same thing. But there’s one thing that I add to your post. You said that it is important to have a purpose if you have a blog. I think I can say same thing when we use SNS. We should have a purpose to use SNS, such as ‘maintain human relationships’ , ‘extend human relationships’, ‘exchange ideas’, ‘show online resume’, and so on. The author of the CNET article stated “SNS doesn’t work” because she did not have any purpose to use SNSs. She just “tried”.
I agree that social networking really does work. I think that people just post such articles to play devils advocate and challenge new fads in society.
Anna-
Yes I see where you coming from...I have also had friends, to whom I had lost contact with and thanks to Facebook, I was able to find them.
I also think that social network sites are useful.
I can contact my friends in all over the world easily.
Moreover, it's free!!!!!
Also I can keep my freindship through social network sites!
Isn't it the cheapest and easiest way to do this?
Therefore,
I really disagree the article.

I do believe that social networking works, but only to an extent. Can you really be friends with someone you never met before?
I just find that it difficult for someone to have 649 friends on facebook. Good thing about facebook is that you can pretty much find anyone on there.
Social networking sites are popping up everywhere, of course they work or they would not exist. Example of this giblink, FriendsWin which will be launching to the public on November 1, but if you want to get in use the link about and join over 12,000 other Independent Marketing Representative's (IMR) as we build now.
This is an opportunity to not only build a network but to make money doing it.
